The experience was targeted towards naive users and relied heavily on indirect control. I worked in a team of five, to deliver it in two weeks. We used Oculus as our VR platform, and Leap Motion for hand controls. In the final presentation (not in the video) the guest had no prior VR experience and very little video game experience, despite that they were successful in navigating to the destination.
Floating buoys, lighthouse, and contrast of the destination from the rest of the landscape contributed to the indirect control.
